Want some hints on how to style an urban beach space? I’m writing this weeks blog post from Hawaii (lucky me) and while I may be staring at a sea of turquoise, (my happiest color), I’m not encouraging blue walls or seashells in a vase. Sure, Pottery Barn has some great coastal inspired decor, but its time to elevate this design style. We are checking into a cool urban beach vibe boutique in Santa Monica….The Huntley Hotel. Think white, amber and black with a twist of texture and pops that are sophisticated yet casual. Here’s how to mimic this sophisticated summer style at home.
Shades of Amber, Black and White
Sometimes the best color is no color at all. Mix gold and amber hues with leather, metal and lighting to give a warm vibe against the white backdrop. And use black to give a room confidence. Black elements anchor a space. A room is naked without black.
Layers of White
An all white space evokes purity and cleanliness. The key to getting white right is to layer, layer, layer. Think objects and textures that offer depth in the space. Carve out a little sitting area in your house and it will soon be your fave spot. A green plant adds an organic touch to this crisp space. And yes, this can work anywhere….It’s white!
Lighting is Art
Instead of a basic chandelier, think different and suspend unique shaped pendants above a dining table. Lighting is like art, make it the focal point in a space. I like how the lighting color mimics the rich wood table below, completing the space. Use white accents on a dark table! Sure, this view helps!
Shades and textures of sandalwood feel tranquil and spa-like. Mixing different materials like stone, wood, ceramic and leather is what makes a space inviting. Think about your favorite hotel spas and I bet they all look and feel something like this. Do it at home!
P.S. Notice the touch of black?
